Fort Smith is known as the “jewel at the end of the road”. It is set between a roaring river and a peaceful boreal forest. The town has all the modern conveniences. It has the Northern Life Museum, the Mission Park, and local arts and artists. But this is a town where you are just minutes away from pristine wilderness and abundant wildlife.

The Queen Elizabeth Campground is located just minutes out of town. It has sites with power, showers, playground, firewood, and beautiful views of the Slave River. There are also hiking trails for closer views of the river. In early September, night comes early this far north. If you are lucky, you will have the Aurora Borealis to light you campsite. Just in case you don’t, a good camping lantern comes in very handy. The right lantern can also help get your tent warm for bedtime!
